Locals have suspended their two days long strike at Gautam Buddha International airport (GBIA) project site. Locals had protested against the authority by setting up tents in runway site which is being constructed for delay in distribution of compensation for land acquisition process.
The movement has been suspended in the agreement to smoothen the distribution process by Thursday. Civil Aviation Authority has released 2 billion rupees in projects account to be distributed to land owners. Remaining 3 billion is set to be released soon.
The project had already released 6 billion to around 800 peoples 3-4 months ago and halted the distribution stating lack of budget. About 2,500 families will get compensation from the last land acquisition for the airport for which 23 billion will be required. The construction will commence as soon as the protest halts.
The agitated land owners were also demanding latest land evaluation as there is price hike at every sectors and their land was evaluated three years ago. Likewise, they had also been urging the government should not collect taxes while distribution of compensation.
The major infrastructural work of GBIA related to international terminal building, administration building, control tower, runway and apron is under way and 42 per cent of physical progress has been achieved till now.
The sub base layer for 3km long runway has been completed and the base course layer project has been initiated which will take 2 months for the completion. After that the blacktopping work will be commenced.
