Saudi football team safe after plane engine catches fire

Plane carrying Saudi Arabia’s national soccer team landed safely in Rostov-on-Don on Monday evening after an engine caught with fire of the aircraft with the players onboard.

The team were travelling on a Rossiya Airbus A319 from St Petersburg to Rostov-on-Don for their second group stage match against Uruguay on Wednesday. Russian Aviation regulator Rosaviatsya said there was brief fire in one of the engine and they are set to open investigation on it.

Various social media footage showed of the fire while the airlines denied it stating it was technical fault due to bird strike. They also stated that there was no any problem for the passenger and the aircraft landed in routine way with no warning sign.

The video footage shows that the fire broke out on approach to the Rostov airport.
