Flights operation at Rajbiraj Airport fails to resume on time

-SAPTARI

The Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), Mr. Rabindra Adhikari on May 24, this year had inaugurated the resumption of Rajbiraj airport in Saptari after closure of around one and a half decades in between the period of its establishment in 2016 B.S. However, the daily flight operation at the Airport becomes inconsistent due to insufficient airport infrastructure.

According to the Airport Chief, Mr. Ramekwal Mahato, they would conduct regular flights after completing all preparations at the airport which may take about a week.

The MoCTCA Minister had vowed that the airport would operate the daily flight from June 15 but presuming the airport infrastructure conditions the airport is unlikely to come into operation from the given deadline. The airport had not been prepared to carry out the regular flights.

According to the Shree Airlines Branch Manager, Mr. Suresh Mallik, the carriers have not yet setup the airline counters at the airport and even though the road connecting the airport departure, arrival and waiting longue has not been repaired.

Shree airlines 50-seater CRJ-200ER had successfully performed its test flight at the renovated Rajbiraj airport which has been closed for past 11 years due to poor runway.
