Increase in arrival of VIP and VVIPs and lack of security measures at Bharatpur airport has raised threat to security. The problem is now a huge matter of concern for administration as the management authorities are facing problems in controlling crowd during visit of such high level personnel.
Pawan Kumar Gautam, airport manager said that peoples (Families, friends, followers, and party cadres) get to the runway without any restrictions. Huge crowd gathers when a leader or minister lands and they do not listen to management authority creating lot of problems in running normal operations.
After the country going federal, movement of dignitaries across the country has also grown and has also made Bharatpur Airport busier as Bharatpur has been both a destination and transit. Although guideline have been made for crowd regulation, its implementation has been difficult.
The administration has now come up with idea to restrict visitors flow into the airport through issuing entry passes and it is expected to control; crowd ensuring security.
Nepal Police Chief of Chitwan also stated that the problem is very crucial and its control mechanism has not been effective as they also have to work under extreme pressure but they are trying their best to control it.
The number of visits of such dignitaries has increased and the police personnel have to provide security to VIPs from the airport to their destination but the number of police has personals remain same.
If the new rule gets implemented soon, only 15 people will be provided pass to welcome or see off VIPs which will help in managing airport and ensure security.
Gautam previously stated that the procedure for adopting international standards related to air security, law and regulations is in progress for the Airport. “Various sector will be announced prohibited areas of airport and the security check will be conducted strictly, he added.
As per the information, the parking bays, terminal buildings, control towers, runway has been announced the prohibited areas of the airport. Similarly, required devices, equipment, buildings, roads and facilities, and terminals are also prohibited.
The passengers will be allowed to enter the prohibited area with entry pass on the basis of the required documents and flight documents. The VIP section will be available to the high ranked officials only.
The Bharatpur Civil Aviation Authority has also recommended the metropolis to demolish parts of high-rise buildings, which have raised concerns among aviation authorities over potential risks they could pose to fight safety around the airport premises’.
