A feasibility study conducted by Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) on May 5, 2018 for the proposed construction of airport in Phidim Municipality of Panchthar district has been concluded today.
CAAN conducted feasibility study second time for the construction of airport in Syau Danda, Ranitar in Phidim Municipality-14. The construction of the airport at Ranitar was proposed in 2010 and the process for construction of airport had begun since 2067 BS. The study was carried out by a technician team from Realpath Engineering Consultancy, through CAAN.
Technician team used drone technology while conducting survey as part of a feasibility study for airport construction. According to The Himalayan Times, the local have been making constant pressure for construction of airport after the CAAN a survey report stated that the construction of an airport was possible with 800-metre runway in 2067. The district development committees and lawmakers from the district have been making constant effort on government to expedite construction of the airport.
According to an engineer of the survey team, Ojaswi Babu Malla, 1200 metre runway with a width of 30 meters is possible for construction .if the runway is constructed according to second survey report then aircraft with 50 seats capacity also can operate at airport contentedly, he added.
As per the information, the team would submit feasibility survey report to CAAN within five months. The team stated that the survey shows that the airport can be constructed at the proposed site and has estimated the cost of the Rs 3 billion for the construction.
The local were supportive towards providing 350 ropani land free of cost for the airport in 2067 and they are still ready to provide another 100 ropani free of cost if more land is required and Rs 10,000 would be charged per ropani for more than that. If the airport was constructed under the survey report of 2010 then only Twin otters could conduct operation,
