Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) Mr. Rabindra Adhikari on his visit to Jiri has committed to bring the Jiri Airport back to operation. Jiri is a famous tourist destination and Minister Adhikari announced the same in the interaction program held near the airport site.
He also noted that the acknowledgement of the Jiri’s airport authority to the agricultural ministry was worthless and now the authority will be brought back within the jurisdiction of civil aviation ministry and initiate internal flights to and fro the airport.
Jiri airport is suitable for the tourists opting to touch Mount Everest and Mount Rolwaling. Besides, the operation of the airport can provide some relief for the increasing air traffic at Kathmandu airspace.
The municipality authorities appraised the participants on the interaction program after their efforts made in the previous time to resume the operation of Jiri Airport.
Number of foreign and domestic tourists visiting Solukhumbu via Jiri is expected to increase once the airport resumes.
