Minister directs to complete the Gautam Buddha Int’l Airport project within a year

Newly appointed Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari visited construction site of Gautam Buddha International Airport and directed the construction company to complete the airport project within one year.

Minister Rabindra Adhikari stated that this is the subject of the country’s reputation so, the government is ready to provide all assistance required to speed up the work and complete within 9 months.

By the month of June, Asian Development Bank (ADB) has instructed to complete 50 per cent of the construction work. Following the instruction, Minster Adhikari reminded that there is only 70 days left and asked the authorities to carry out the work by evaluating and to analyze the results each day.

Though ADB expected the completion of 50 per cent work by June, Minister Adhikari has aim to complete 60 per cent of construction work.

Om Sharma, head of the airport stated that the work was being done according to the schedule and has made briefly explanation about the process of construction work to Minister Adhikari.

Currently, the construction work is going on at Terminal building, runway, control tower, water tanks and administrative buildings. The constructions work is strengthening with the aim of completing the runway work before rainy season.

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has issued a new deadline for the completion of Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) Project that is September 2019.

Sanjiv gautam, Director General of CAAN told that as per amount of high number of laborer and amount of construction materials stocked at the site, they are able to estimate the time.

From then the project completion deadline was extended many times and the last deadline given by the main financier of project Asian Development Bank (ADB) is June 2019. Due to slow paced work, ADB had informed that it won’t be able to assist with finance to Nepal Government but if the contractor improves the work by mid-march, they will continue providing financial support.

A team of officials from Asian Development Bank-ADB inspected the GBIA project recently. ADB was the main aider for the construction of the airport but had stopped providing loan and grant from January this year as the work was not completed in given time-frame.
