Fire at western side of TIA disrupts flight operation

The induction of fire at the western part of the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) had disrupted flight operation for time being today.

As been reported, the fire was produced from the stack of garbage at the airport however, it did not induce any destruction.

Stack of plastics stored for long period of time and other garbage caught fire at around 4:30 pm local time. The exact reason behind the incident is unknown but preliminary information suggest that the cigarette thrown on the garbage had caused the fire to break out.

After sighting the huge smoke, the airport was closed for about 9 minutes. A couple of fire brigades were deployed to extinguish the fire.

Spokesperson for TIA Mr. Prem Nath Thakur reported that closing the airport was not necessary however the fire movement could cause problem in flight operation so, we closed the airport for safety reason.

“The fire was however extinguished quickly. The situation is normal now,” he added.
