Institute of Engineering (IOE), one of the five technical institutes under Tribhuvan University (TU) is about to introduce Aeronautical Engineering course for first time in Nepal in collaboration with Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), China.
IOE,TU signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese University yesterday on the closing ceremony of the three day long (15-17 January) Joint Academic Workshop between TU and NUAA held at the ICTC, IOE Pulchowk, Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
As per the MoU, NUAA can offer short-term exchange program for IOE students for 1 or 2 semesters, likewise, TU in return can offer NUAA students to study summer program for 2 weeks in IOE however, no any degree from either side will be awarded.

Besides, selected students from IOE, TU can continue their study at NUAA with Nanjing Government Scholarship or University Scholarship especially for Ministry of Education (MoE) approved Bachelors program including Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, International Business and Electronics and Electrical Engineering.
The MoU states these programs to start from September 2018 or February 2019 to which the students are to be selected from the batch of 2016 or 2017. And the great news is; the students will be rewarded with double Bachelor’s degree from NUAA and IOE, TU. Moreover, NUAA will award full scholarship to IOE, TU students who have finished their Bachelors for Master of Ph. D. degrees at NUAA.
The MoU also covers the staff exchange program in which staffs from IOE, TU will have opportunity to teach at NUAA. The professors from TU and NUAA will be uniting together for various research projects in the future.
NUAA has declared to conduct the 2nd Academic Workshop at NUAA on late December 2018 or early 2019 for which all the expenses in China including accommodation, meals, cultural tour and so on will be covered by NUAA.
Dean of IOE, TU Professor Dr. Tri Ratna Bajracharya said, “We are focusing on exposing our Nepali students to the various world class universities around the globe so, that they can compete and evolve as an eminent manpower. At present, we are working on to introduce new courses in our university such as hydropower, land and water engineering, chemical engineering and so on but our focal point is to introduce Aeronautical Engineering.”

Nepal is a small country with significant amount of airports and potentiality for efficient expansion of aviation industry so, production of aeronautical engineers from the home land is mandatory, insists Professor Dr. Bajracharya.
It has been years that we are trying to introduce Aeronautical Engineering in Nepal and now the signing of MoU with the renowned University of China, the Nanjing University is set to bring our dream to reality, he added.
Bikash Nakarmi, Phd Associate Professor for Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics said, “This program is initiated to contribute the education sector of Nepal for which Chinese government will provide funding under the framework One Belt, One Road.” To make the MoU live, 14 professors from NUAA arrived Nepal and interacted with the professors of TU.

Nakarmi also said that the talks between NUAA and Nepal Airlines was also going on related to the job opportunities. There are almost 20 NUAA products currently working at Himalaya Airlines, the private international airline of Nepal, he added.
Though the MoU signed between the two esteemed neighboring Universities highlights more about the exchange programs however, the main focus is to contribute and maximize the feasibility of introducing Aeronautical Engineering at TU which is a great news for the young aviation enthusiasts around the country.
