Locals of the mountainous district of Nepal- Manang were in joy as Summit Air’s LET L-410 lands in Humde Airport in the district after two years on Monday. Manang was filled with joy especially the locals who have long waited for the resumption of flights establishing the lifeline.
Managing Director of Summit Air said that the aircraft which landed at Humde Airport conducted a charter flight on Monday. The residents of Manang are expecting the regular passenger flight, however; the commercial flight at the airport will not happen at the present time.
Humde Airport Terminal
The aircraft which landed at Humde Airport had carried 8 foreigners and 2 Nepali nationals were surrounded by the locals who were waiting at the edge of the airport after it landed. The craft had to be landed on the assistance of security official because of the absence of airport officials. The aircraft flew to Manang from Kathmandu which later returned back to Pokhara.
The plane was chartered by WWF for its documentary project on Snow Leopard. “The team will remain in the district for Four days which has Finnish researchers accompanied by Nepali,” Tashi R Ghale, the Snow Leopard expert said.
Two years ago Goma Air conducted commercial flights at the Manang Airport. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has expanded and done improvement work at Manang Airfield with the budget of Rs90 million.
The road infrastructure at Manang is also poor so the operation of Humde Airport is beneficial and effective for the locals as well as tourists as Manang is one of the favorite tourist destinations of Nepal. The tourism entrepreneur at the district is sure that the regular service at the Manang airport will lure a maximum number of tourists.
