Calibration flight in progress for Bhatte Danda Radar System

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has initiated calibration flight for the new generation Mode S Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR) system installed at Bhattedanda, Lalitpur and the current radar system of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). The calibration flight which began from yesterday is under the supervision of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), USA.

A special high-tech equipped Bombardier Challenger 602 B 16 ‘N85’ is conducting the test flight of the radar system. The aircraft conducted test flight of TIA’s Radar from 9 Am to 4 PM yesterday whereas today the aircraft is testing the newly installed radar system at Bhatte Danda.

The engineering team from CAAN is presently at the Bhatte Danda radar site and other officials are involved at TIA. The aircraft will conduct calibration flight till Nov 20 and the preliminary report will be generated.

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has requested every airline operators and passengers to stay informed about the possible flight delays to be caused due to the flight inspection of MSSR.  CAAN has requested everyone to provide essential assistance in this period and has apologized for any inconvenience to be caused.
