Tenzing Hillary Airport (IATA: LUA, ICAO: VNLK), which is also known as Lukla Airport, is facing adverse impact on flight operation since last eight days due to continued downpour and thick fog.
According to the Chief of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Mr. Bachhu Narayan Shrestha, the airport has remained close from last eight days due to an extreme low visibility to carry out the flight operations.
Source added that local entrepreneurs who migrated out of Lukla for the winter hibernation are rapidly returning back. Foreigners are also visiting the Sagarmatha region on a daily basis.
It has also been informed that hundreds of tourists who arrived for visiting the Sagarmatha region are stuck in Lukla after zero operation of aircraft caused by the foggy weather.
Tenzing-Hilary airport in Lukla hasn’t yet operated any flight today as well due to bad weather conditions prevailed at the region.
The airport lies on the lap of Mt Everest, and is considered the gateway to the world’s highest mountain Mt. Everest and is the only airport in Solukhumbu district of eastern Nepal
