Government of Nepal and Cambodia in negotiation for direct flights

Government of Cambodia and Nepal are discussing about the direct flight between the Cambodia and Nepal.

According to Joint -Secretary for Nepal’s Civil Aviation Ministry, Mr. Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane, talks were going on with representatives of both countries to sign agreements for the approval of air route for direct flights between Nepal and Cambodia.

Cambodia will be the new flight routes for Nepal. After the approval of the air route, the leading international carrier of Nepal will conduct the direct fights to Cambodia from Nepal, said Mr. Lamichhane.

Director-general of Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, Mr. Keo Sivorn said the proposed direct flights reflected the country’s progress in civil aviation. But he said the body had not received any formal information over direct flights yet.

“Diplomatically, talks may have been conducted between both sides,” Mr Sivorn said.

“So far, we have conducted talks over direct flights between the countries, like we did with Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia, but technically no agreement has been reached yet.”

Last week, the Nepali embassy to Cambodia which is based in Bangkok, organised a tourism event in Phnom Penh to promote, in particular, historical tourism sites related to Buddhism in Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, and tourism activities including pilgrimages to Buddhist sites, in Nepal.
