CAAN extended deadline for submission of Expression of Interest from consultants to enhance standard of TIA

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) extended deadline to June 23, 2017 for submission of EOI (Expression of Interest) from Construction Supervision Consultant to enhance the standard of the country’s only international airport. Previously, CAAN had announced the notice on 10th May with deadline of 9th June.

Asian Development Bank (ADB) provided Loan and Grant to the Government of Nepal for the Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project which is specially planned to improve standard of TIA.

TIA will be seeing some improvements with the Enhancement Project such as reconfiguration and upgrading of airfield infrastructures, construction of parallel and link taxiways, new international apron, 300 meters of runway extension, construction of runway end safety area and an uninterrupted power supply system for essential airfield and security area lights. Moreover, the international terminal building will also be expanded and reconfigured with improvement in utility facilities.

CAAN has invited eligible consulting firms from ADB member countries to express their interest in providing required services. Interested consultants must prepare and submit an EOI in a form available at the ADB website.

The selection will be done with some guidelines such as technical competence, geographical experience and management competence of consultants. CAAN is the Executing Agency and the Project will be implemented by the Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project.

Currently the country’s only international airport TIA is encountering different circumstances such as increasing air traffic, unfavorable weather conditions, lack of proper management and facilities, unmanaged infrastructures, poor sanitation and many more. TIA is also facing the problem of insufficient parking space due to the fact that the domestic airlines are expanding their fleet capacity in a rapid pace. Parking space for fixed wing aircraft will not be sufficient now on. So, the enhancement project is desperately required for TIA.
