Bidding Final Farewell to Captain Rai
May 29, 2017
A final funeral ceremony of Capt. Parash Kumar Rai who passed away in a tragic incident of Goma Air’s LET 410 aircraft in Lukla Airport last Saturday has been conducted today, two days later the crash and after the body was handed over to the bereaved family by Teaching Hospital post completion of post mortem. Dead bodies of Captain Paras Kumar Rai and First Officer Shreejan Manandhar were brought in a helicopter from Lukla in Teaching Hospital at Maharajgunj, Kathmandu on Sunday for the post mortem.
The funeral ceremony of Capt. Rai has been conducted today at Bankali, Pashupati under the presence of his family members and well-wishers. And most probably, First Officer Shreejan Maharjan’s final funeral will be conducted tomorrow. The treatment of flight attendant Pragya Maharjan is currently going on at Grande International Hospital, Dhapasi, Kathmandu.
The Goma Air LET 410 was conducting a cargo flight from Kathmandu to Lukla when it crashed while attempting to land on runway 06 at Lukla-Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Nepal, Saturday noon.
Senior Captain Paras Kumar Rai, permanent resident of Budhanilkantha Municipality, Kathmandu valley with CPL/ATPL License number 299, had logged more than 9000 flight hours under his belt. He was much more experienced pilot in STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) field as previously he had already flown Dornier and Twin Otter. After he joined Goma Air, he had a type rating on Let-410 aircraft and had already flown more than 1800 hours.
This is the saddest moment and a matter of setback for aviation industry of Nepal.
