United Airlines banned girls with leggings
March 28,2017
The two young girls were banned from boarding a flight by United Airlines on Sunday with the reasons that they were wearing leggings. The incident which took place at Denver International Airport was reported by Shannon Watts, the founder of the gun safety group Moms Demand Action, on twitter.
According to Watts, the gate agent forced the girls to change or put dresses on over leggings otherwise they could not board. The gate agent said that she does not make the rules, she just follows it. Watts also said “a 10-year old girl in gray leggings who looked normal and appropriate was compelled to change her dress code before boarding.”
United Airlines did not respond immediately to a phone call or email however, replied directly to Watts saying: “The passengers this morning were United pass riders who were not in compliance with our dress code policy for company benefit travel.”
The airlines also claimed, “In our contract of carriage, rule 21, we do have the right to refuse transport for passengers. This is left to the discretion of the gate agents.” “There is a dress code for pass travelers as they are representing United Airlines when they fly,” United wrote.
The decision by United Airlines has depicted the changing culture of air travel in the U.S., aviation historians say.
