16 dead in US Marine Corps KC-130 Hercules crash in Mississippi

A US military plane KC-130 Hercules crashed into a rural field in Mississippi at around 1600 local time on Monday resulting at least 16 fatalities and spreading debris for miles. The Marine Corps announced the incident via Twitter however; details are yet to be disclosed.

As per the information, 16 bodies had been recovered after the KC-130 spiraled into the ground about 135km (85 miles) north of Jackson in the Mississippi Delta. No sign of any foul play is expected but the FBI is investigating the incident. The Marine Corps said it operated the plane but has provided no information on where the flight originated, or where it was going.

Declaring the incident to be tragedy, the Governor of Mississippi said, “Our men and women in uniform risk themselves every day to secure our freedom.”

The KC-130 is one of the most extensively used planes for military purpose such as carrying cargo, transporting troops and carrying out inflight refueling.
