Yogesh Bhattrai, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation of Nepal, appreciated for the satisfactory results achieved so far from Pokhara International Airport.
Yogesh Bhattrai wrote in his Facebook stating “Work on the Pokhara Airport continues despite the Corona epidemic. 244 Chinese and 100 Nepali workers are working safely. The project, which is targeted to be completed by June 2021, has achieved 62 percent progress so far. The work has been satisfactory. Thank you to all the workers and project heads and staff who continue to work in the midst of epidemics.”
Nearly 60% of the construction work at Pokhara International Airport is already accomplished. The CAMC Engineering Company, headquartered in China, was contracted to finish the project by 10 July 2021.The new airport will act as an atmospheric entrance to the Himalayan and Annapurna regions of Nepal. It’s also expected to accommodate one million visitors per year.
The projected cost of the project is Rs 22 billion. The development of the Pokhara International Airport began 3 years ago. Many of the airport infrastructures, along with the runway, the internally and externally airport buildings as well as the air traffic control tower, have also been accomplished.
A 2.5 km and 45 m wide runway is expected to be constructed at the upcoming Pokhara International Airport to facilitate commercial aircraft take-off and landing operations such as Airbus A320, Boeing 737, and Boeing 757.

The investment is set to provide enhanced air transport services to the increasing number of foreign and domestic passengers and freight transport. This will also improve the civil aviation activities in the country and lead to growth of the economy, and also to tourism industry.
The technical strategic plan for the upcoming Pokhara International Airport is planned to meet the 4D level guidelines set by ICAO, IATA, and FAA.
The $215.96 million soft loans agreed with China in March 2016 for the establishment of a new Pokhara International Airport came into force after the Ministry of Finance formally decided to send a confirmation letter.
