Major domestic carriers operating night flights with aim of reducing congestion

Major domestic airline companies have started conducting two dozen night flights daily from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

After the proposal of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), private airlines like Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, and Shree airlines have commenced night flights. These airlines have received permission to conduct 25 flights daily from 6 pm to 9 pm from Kathmandu to various destinations.

The night flights will play a great role in reducing air traffic congestion of TIA. Buddha Air conducts 14 flights, Yeti airlines conducts 7 flights and Shree airlines conducts 4 flights at night time to Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, and Dhangadhi.

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has planned to facilitate Bhadrapur airport and Janakpur airport for conducting night flights within 5-7 months. Apart from this, Buddha Air started its base at Pokhara airport and Biratnagar airport helping to overcome parking bay congestion at TIA. Similarly, Shree airlines performs night stop at Nepalgunj Airport.

Currently, Buddha Air owns 7 ATR72-500, 3 are ATR42-320 and 2 are Beechcraft-1900D. Yeti airlines conduct flights with its 6 Jetstream-41 and 2 ATR72-500 whereas Shree airlines own 2 CRJ-200 and 2 CRJ-700 aircraft.

Buddha Air conducts 48 flights, Yeti airlines conducts 36 flights and Shree airlines conducts 18 flights daily from TIA.

The domestical terminal of TIA is operational from 5 am in the morning with the aim of the smooth operation of domestic flights during the peak tourist season and to reduce air traffic congestion. Now, the TIA is operational for 22 hours a day.

The opening of TIA’s domestic terminal at early morning has made easy for operating flights to Lukla and Mountain Flight.
